Overview
The tidal heights and currents are computed from the global tide model FES2014 developed in collaboration with CLS, LEGOS, NOVELTIS and within a CNES funded project (Cf. http://www.aviso.altimetry.fr/en/data/products/auxiliary-products/global-tide-fes.html).
FES2014 is the last version of the FES (Finite Element Solution) tide model released in 2016. FES2014 is based on the resolution of the shallow water hydrodynamic equations (T-UGO model) in a spectral configuration and using a global finite element mesh with increasing resolution in coastal and shallow waters regions. FES2014 database is distributed on a global 1/16° x 1/16° grid.
FES2014 also benefits from data assimilation, taking advantage of higher accuracy datasets thanks to longer altimeter time series and better altimeter standards.
Tidal heights from FES2014 are used operationally to correct altimetry measurements from tidal component.
